DELINEA nON OF RESPONSIBILITY
SUBCOMMITTEE
COMMITTEE ROOM - February 6, 2001
1 :00 p.m.
PRESENT: B. Young, Mayor, A Cheek, Chairman, S. Shepard, M. Williams, members, B. Kuhlke,
Commissioner, W. Hornsby, Administrator, 1. Wall, Attorney, L. Bonner, Clerk of Commission.
MEDIA: G. Eskola, Channel 6, H. Coryell, Augusta Chronicle, A. Coleman, Metro Courier.
A packet was distributed to committee members that included the goals of the committee, work
request categories, list of direct reports and responsibilities and a copy of the Athens, Georgia
charter.
After further discussion,
Mr. Cheek: In responsibilities before our next meeting we want to define reading for the
Mayor and Chair person, we can go back and read the consolidation bill and some of these other
documents. There is not a lot of real good definition for the first two categories, the Mayor and
Commission. When you get to the city administrator lets commit to reading through the
administrators job description. If we review that we can then add and strike however necessary to
develop that. With our responsibilities, that I think will define some of our limitations. We'll have
each group responsible for a set list of things and that will help us define our limitations of where
we cross over.
Mr. Shepard: I think we should also rc:ference the document of the Augusta Richmond
County Administrator Authority and Responsibility.
Mr. Cheek: Our goal duties for the interim between this and our next meeting for me is to
word smith the information we have received here today and pass it on to the Clerk. I would like
for us to develop a report to give back to the Commission. Do we have a closure date for us to
complete this committee's activities?
Mr. Shepard: I think sixty to ninety-days.
Mr. Cheek: Our next meeting will be February 21 at 1 :00.
ADJOURNMENT: With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
Lena 1. Bonner
