BETHLEHEM TOWN MEETING
MT. CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH
August 26, 1999 -7:40 P.M.

PRESENT: Hons. Steve Shepard, Freddie Handy, Bill Kuhlke, Jr., Henry
Brigham, W. H. Mays, III and Lee Beard, Commissioners; Jim Wall, Attorney; Sonny
Pittman, Historic Preservation Commission.
(Approximately 100 people were in attendance)
Rev. Jacob Trowell, Mr. Evan Harris, 1631 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., and
Rev. Larry Fryer, Good Hope Community Center, spoke in favor of the Hi3toric
Preservation Ordinance.
Rev. Walker, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and Ms. Emma Smith, 1619 Chestnut St.,
spoke in oI=position to the Ordinance.
Ms. Dianne Kimble of Bethlehem Community Center spoke in favor of the
Ordinance with certain modifications and expressed concerns about the lack a police
presence and drug activities in the area.
Ms. Addie Powell expressed support for the Ordinance and gave a short history of
its inception.

Mr. James Pollard, 1520 Mill St., expressed his concerns about needed
improvements in the immediate area.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
