REAL ESTATE MEETING
COMMITTEE ROOM - November 7,2001
I
PRESENT: Hons. Bob Young, Mayor; J. Brigham, Mays, Kuhlke, H. Brigham,
Shepard, Beard, Cheek, Williams and Bridges, Commissioners; Jim Wall, Attorney;
George Kolb, Administrator; Walter Hornsby, Deputy Administrator; Lena Bonner, Clerk
of Commission.
Mr. Kolb: At your last meeting you authorized Bill Kuhlke and I to talk to Bill
Hatcher to see if there was any interest in one, leasing a floor of the Hatcher Building for
the District Attorney and two, whether or not they would be interested in selling the
building. The prosecutors have indicated an interest in relocating to the fourth floor of
the building. They are definitely interested in leasing to us for the District Attorney and
anybody else we want to move over there. They are also interested, provided that there
are no tax consequences to them of any significance, in selling the building. They talked
about possibly a land trade for some property we own in west Augusta for the property
downtown. The prosecutor is beginning to layout his floor, and we wanted to see your
feelings about this and how you want to proceed. I would reco=end that you authorize
us to proceed with negotiating a lease for space in the Hatcher Building and that we pay
for the cost of the improvements out of the Judicial Building funds. We can talk further
about the sale.
I
Mr. Wall: I'm not sure you're going to be able to take that from the Judicial
funds but we can look into that Are we authorized to proceed with getting some
appraisals done?
It was the consensus of the Commission that the Attorney proceed with some
property appraisals and the negotiation of the lease.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Lena J. Bonner
Clerk of Co=ission
