REAL ESTATE MEETING
COMMITTEE ROOM
September 4,2001
PRESENT: Hons. Bob Young, Mayor; Colclough, 1. Brigham, Mays, Kuhlke, H.
Brigham, Shepard, Beard, Cheek, Williams and Bridges, Co=issioners; Jim Wall,
Attorney; George Kolb, Administrator and Lena Bonner, Clerk of Commission.
Mr. Wall: The first item is the status of the acquisition on Savannah Place
properties and Grand Boulevard. Mr. Williams, Mr. Kolb and Mr. Revell were in a
meeting and the property owner is agreeable to selling for $41,500, and I think we need
to get a contract for that amount and get it approved. If everyone is okay with that, we'll
move forward with it.
The Marvin Griffin Road property has been appraised at $250,000, which is
$35,000 an acre, and that is what the property owner was offering it for. The problem is
we don't have $250,000; we have $200,000 and we need some direction there. This is
the seven acres for the community center in the Apple Valley area.
Mr. Williams: It was 7.5 acres and I think it was around $240,000 and we asked
Harry to try to get the property for the least amount he could.
Mr. Wall: That may be where he's headed; I haven't talked to him today.
I
Mr. Cheek: I talked to thepeople out on Willis Foreman Road about the fire
station site. What are the litigation costs involved because they are probably going to
fight the condemnation.
Mr. Wall: It's hard to determine because you don't know at what time they would
stop appealing. The farther you go with the process the more the costs go up. Will they
sell for the ten?
Mr. Cheek: I think they would take the ten but we need to get three acres. I think
that would be a compromise they would live with.
Mr. Wall: I told them I would recommend the ten and if we could get the three
acres for ten, I think that would be the best bet.
It was the consensus that Mr. Wall try to get a contract for the three acres for
$10,000.
I
Mr. Shepard: Jack Long is the attorney for Jimmy Davison and he has presented
to me a possibility that we could acquire the property at the comer of Berckman Road
and Ingleside Drive for the Greenspace program. It is a 4.89 acre tract where the creeks
come together. I think we should investigate this by having an appraisal done of the
property and then see if we can come to terms with Jimmy.
It was the consensus that an appraisal be done on this property.
Mr. J. Brigham: Are we making any progress on transferring the pension
property to us or anybody else?
I
Mr. Wall: The appraisal is more than the amount of the sales tax monies. I talked
to Donna about fmding the difference. $1.2 is the SPLOST money and $1.5 is the
amount of the appraisal so we need about $300,000. This is an also updated appraisal.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Lena J. Bonner
Clerk of Commission
