REAL ESTATE MEETING
COMMITTEE ROOM - December 19,2000
PRESENT: Hons. Bob Young, Mayor; Colclough, 1. Brigham, Mays, Kuhlke, H.
Brigham, Shepard, Beard, Cheek, Williams and Bridges, members of Augusta Richmond
County Commission.
Also Present: Jim Wall, Attorney; Walter Hornsby, Interim Administrator and
Lena Bonner, Clerk of Commission.
I
Mr. Wall: It has come to our attention through some plans that are being
circulated to be reviewed that a couple of property owners on Broad Street are proposing
to build a new facility which will possibly be in the route of the Greene Street extension.
They have bought two lots and one of the routes would carry them through this property.
They purchased the property for approximately $100,000, I'm told, and they're talking
about putting a $250,000 piece of equipment on that piece of property. DOT has not
finalized the design of where the road is going and so we cannot stop them from building
there; however, one thing we would like to propose to you is this piece of property here
(indicates) is owned by the City. It's directly across from the Central Shop and we're
utilizing that property. We're suggesting that you authorize us to discuss with the
property owner swapping this City-owned property for these two lots recognizing that
they mayor may not be utilized as a part of that DOT right-of-way and the City has the
obligation to purchase it. Otherwise, he is going to locate a $250,000 piece of equipment
there and three years down the road if it's determined that that's where we've got to build
the road then we're going to wind up paying him a considerable amount of money to
relocate his piece of equipment. We'd like to explore it and I don't know whether it's a
possibility or not.
It was the consensus of the Commission that Mr. Wall proceed.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
