HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-21-2000 Meeting REAL ESTATE MEETING COMMITTEE ROOM I November 21, 2000 PRESENT: Hons. Bob Young, Mayor; Colclough, 1. Brigham, Mays, Kuhlke, H. Brigham, Shepard, Beard, Cheek and Williams, Commissioners; Jim Wall, Attorney; Walter Hornsby, Interim Administrator and Lena Bonner, Clerk of Commission. I Mr. Wall: There had been discussions about building a connection between this yard which is on Laney Walker and the beltline. Currently the CSX cars that come in parallel to Riverwatch, come down, come through here, come back, go down this track and a locomotive has to change, come back around and pull in the rear o{the train which will be the front of the train and go back out the tracks and go out through the Medical College and 13th Street out that direction. Whatthis woUld do is allow those trains to come out through here, come back around and go out of town so that as opposed to the number of stops that traffic has to get there, this would eliminate that. Pete Belvin set up the meeting. Boral Bricks owns this property but has been hesitant in the past to sell because of future expansion needs. The feeling is now since they have located their sales office out on Doug Barnard Parkway that they may be receptive to selling this property. Jack Connell says he thinks he can get the money from the state to buy the land if you will authorize me to contact Boral Bricks and talk about getting an option. Pete Belvin seems to think the railroad will build the track if we can get the land because it will save them time and money because they can come in and pass through and go out of town. I want to get permission to pursue getting an option to purchase that. The first thing to do is to be sure we can buy the property. It was the consensus of the Commission that Mr. Wall pursue the matter of acquiring the option to purchase the property. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Lena J. Bonner Clerk of Commission NWM I
