HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-03-1999 Meeting REAL ESTATE MEETING COMMITTEE ROOM I November 3, 1999 PRESENT: Hons. Bob Young, Mayor; Colclough, J. Brigham, Mays, Kuhlke, H. Brigham, Shepard, Beard, Powell, Handy and Bridges, Commissioners; Jim Wall, Attorney; Randy Oliver, Administrator and Lena Bonner, Clerk of Commission. Mr. Mayor: I wanted to get some feedback from you about a piece of property that the City owns. I've been talking to Judge Bowen about the property between Telfair and West Ford, Walker Street and James Brown Blvd. where the old James Hotel used to be. We own about a fourth or a third of that block and Judge Bowen is interested in getting the Bankruptcy Court to move over to that property if a businessness man would come in and build a building for the office space. Within the last week Clay Boardman and some other people have expressed an interest in acquiring that block and building the building and they have been in touch with GSA and GSA wants a larger building that will hold some additional federal offices other than just the Bankruptcy Court. All this is in the discussion stage but we need to be a willing seller to make the package happen. We're not asking for approval to sell it, but I just wanted to get a sense if anyone had a plan for the property. I Mr. Wall: Mr. Mayor, before you came into office, the Commission authorized me to set up a Walker Street parking lot account in order to accumulate funds so that we could possibly buy that property. We have had it appraised and we have only accumulated about $45,000 in that account. They will probably also want to close Ford and Walker Streets so that there would not be traffic through there and it would offer some protection for the Court. Mr. Mayor: There was a need for parking space over there as well. I just wanted to see if you had any interest in it. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Lena J. Bonner Clerk of Commission NWM I
