REAL ESTATE MEETING
COMMITTEE ROOM - September 15, 1998
PRESENT: Hons. Larry Sconyers, Mayor; Beard, Bridges, J. Brigham, H.
Brigham, Kuhlke, Handy, Mays, Shepard and Powell, members of Augusta Richmond
County Commission; Randy Oliver, Administrator; Jim Wall, Attorney and Nancy
Morawski, Deputy Clerk of Commission.
Mr. Oliver: There are two issues I would like to discuss on real estate. A man
with a building near our parking garage has expressed an interest in leasing 75 spaces in
our garage. I expressed to him that there would be a one-year limit because we don't
know what we're going to do at this point relating to a space plan and we don't want to
lock ourselves into a long-term situation. I suggested that he contact the church there to
see if they would lease him any spaces but what we tentatively agreed to was 75 spaces at
$22.00 per space per month. I wanted to know whether you felt that was acceptable.
University's agreement expired a couple of months ago.
It was the consensus of the Commission that Mr. Oliver proceed with this plan.
Mr. Oliver: The second item is that we'd like to get a consensus to see if we can
get an appraisal on Davison'slGreene's property. It will probably take four to six weeks
to get the appraisal back and that will dovetail into the management study that's being
done.
I
Mr. Handy: Where will the money come from?
Mr. Oliver: It will come out of the Sales Tax account for the project.
It was the consensus of the Commission that Mr. Oliver proceed with getting an
appraisal on the property.
Mr. Oliver: The final thing I have relates to the School Board and the White
Road property. We're going to get into a major problem January 1 with Judge Mulherin
ifhe doesn't have a place to go. I'd like to get the issue with the School Board on White
Road.. .
Mr. Wall: I think we've got that worked out.
Mr. Oliver: As I understand it we can coexist.
Mr. Wall: Trees & Parks is going to White Road and Harry Siddall can go up to
where Barry is.
Mr. Oliver: Rick Acree will go up to nine and Judge Mulherin will go into Rick's
I
space.
Mr. J. Brigham: So we need to agree to the thing on White Road?
Mr. Oliver: Yes, and I'll put it on the next Committee agenda.
I
Mr. Wall: The immediate concern is to have parking and Pete Fletcher had been
trying to get the days that they're having events there at Josey so that we would have that
and be sure everything is coordinated. So we are talking about coexisting in that we
would use the building and they would have the use of the facilities from a parking
standpoint.
Mr. Oliver: We may spend some money to remodel the building to accommodate
Trees & Parks.
Mr. Wall: I had hoped to have some numbers today for Doug Holland's situation
but I didn't get it all so we'll talk about it later.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
