Communication from the Director of the Richmond County
License & Inspection Department requesting permission to
advertise for bids to demolish and clear the property of the
condemned structures located at 2843 Deans Bridge Road. (Cadles
Motel Map 85-4 Parcel 66), was read.
Mr. Meyer: This piece of property was vacated and the
buildings were open and vandals were living there. We condemned
it and the property owner began to clear the property. A permit
had not been issued to demolish it and the person doing it was
not a licensed contractor. The state got involved and there was
some asbestos in this building so the state stopped work. I
notified the property owner that it would come before you today
and I think we can get our money back on this one. We will bill
him for this.
Mr. Todd: I move that we authorize License & Inspection to
go out for bids on the demolition.
I
Mr. Kuhlke: I'll second that.
Mr. Meyer: If you would include in your motion that even
after we go out for bids, if he wants to get a legitimate
contractor and do it himself, if he will reimburse us for
whatever we have expended as far as advertising fees, etc. up to
that point, that we would still allow him to do.
Mr. Todd: I'll include that in the motion.
Motion adopted unanimously.
