Williams, Chairman; Sims, Co-Chairman; Boyles, member; Steve Shepard, Attorney; George Kolb, Administrator; Chief Ron Shirey, Fire Department; David Persaud, Finance Director; Peggy Seigler, Asst. Administrator; Lena Bonner, Clerk of Commission. ABSENT: Hons. Bob Young, Mayor; Beard, member. Also Present: Sylvia Cooper of the Augusta Chronicle, Stacey Eidson of the Metro Spirit, other members of the news media and Hons. Hankerson, Colclough and Grantham, Commissioners. The Deputy Clerk: We have one addendum item and that is to discuss Powerfest at Lock & Dam. (No objection to adding this item to the agenda) 1. Discuss usage offormer fire stations behind Daniel Village and at East Boundary. (Requested by Commissiouer Cheek) (Referred from April 12 Public Safety) Chief Shirey: At the present time station 8 is being used by the Sheriff's Department for the DUl Task Force. They have the responsibility for the building and the utilities. The station on Sand Bar Ferry Road is not being used presently and is sitting empty. Mr. Boyles: Who will maintain the little village behind the station? Ms. Seigler: The Utilities Department will be doing that. Mr. Boyles: It is my understanding that Mr. Cheek had talked with the dive team about using the Sand Bar Ferry building. Chief Shirey: That's correct and the Chief asked me to convey that he would like to see it come before a public forum to discuss the usage of the building. Mr. Chairman: There have been several people interested in using the building including the people in that neighborhood area. Mr. Shepard: I'll try to put the matter on your next agenda. Ms. Sims: I move we receive this as information. I Mr. Boyles: I'll second that. Can we make some arrangement for Public Works or Trees & Landscape to go down and at least cut the grass while this is going on? I Mr. Chairman: I think the inmate crew can handle that at least once a month. Mr. Kolb: We'll make sure that that gets done as soon as possible. Motion adopted unanilnously. 2. Discuss dog breeding incideut at Animal Control. (Requested by Commissioner Colclough) At this time Ms. Wi Ilene Colvin appeared before the committee regarding the above incident. Mr. Shepard: I think the personnel aspects of this should be discussed in legal. Mr. Kolb: This is under investigation at this time and I don't think we need to discuss this in a public session. Ms. Colvin related some information about the incident to the commissioners. After a short discussion, Mr. Boyles: I'd like to make a motion that we refer this back to legal. Ms. Sims: Second. I Motion adopted unanimously. Addendum Item 1. Discuss the Powerfest at the Lock aud Dam. (Requested by Commissioner Williams. The Chairman expressed his concerns about the large number of people attending the Powerfest and the safety concerns involved with the ingress and egress of traffic through one entrance/exit in the case of an emergency. Mr. Kolb noted that a plan was in place through Recreation & Parks. After a short discussion, Mr. Grantham: I think we should have some form of ticket of release printed up and presented to the people that come in with each vehicle stating that the city will not be held responsible for any kind of damage that may occur. Ms. Sims: I think we should contact Recreation and see.ifthere is anything like that already in place and if there is not, then go with that suggestion. Mr. Chairman: Can I get that in the form of motion? I 2 I Ms. Sims: I so move. Mr. Boyles: Second. Motion adopted unanimously. Mr. Chairman: I'd like to have this matter put on the regular agenda and although the event will have taken place, this is not the first time that we've talked about this. It has not been done as we instructed the Administrator and the Recreation Director to do. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Lena J.
