Mr. Chairman: Ms. Bonner because Mr. Todd is not here, please have this item placed on the next Committee Meeting agenda A request from the firefighters of the Augusta Richmond County Fire Department to assist the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation in fund raising activities on May 28, 29, 31, 1999 by using firefighter boots to collect money at several intersections throughout Augusta. I Chief Few: Last year we helped the Southeastern Bum Foundation raise funds and as a result they have built a wing onto their center so that people can stay overnight in the Augusta Bum Unit. They have asked that we come back and help them again this year. Last year we raised around $23,000 and hopefully we can do the same or better this year. Mr. Kuhlke: This is a great thing that you'll do and I'm very supportive of that. The only thing that I would mention to you is that ifit's done to frequently, I think: people tend to get a little bit aggravated every time at an intersection they stop. My point being is that and I'll support this, but I would caution you about doing too many of these in a years period of time. Chief Few: I share tWit saine concern. S~metimes it wears the firefighters out. So the last time you granted me permission with the Boy Scouts, I only went into the shopping centers. Everybody is pulling on us now that they found out that, as a department we will help the community if we feel it is genuine. There are a number of people we have turned down, but the Boy Scouts who my department now is having a lot of interaction with now and I granted that. But actually, I only wanted to have two a year and that was the MDA and the Southeastern Bum Foundation. Mr. Kuhlke: Would it help you if we as a body approved this and put a limitation on, would that help you in any way? I Chief Few: I can say no sometimes, I realize that and I need to, but I think: we ought to give them one more year. Mr. KuhIke: I move approval, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Shepard: Second. Motion carried unanimously. A request from the Fire Department to approve the purchase of computer CAD equipment for the Fire Department Commuuicatious Center at the 911 Emergency Dispatch Center to bring the Fire Department Dispatch Consoles up to date with the CAD system at a cost not to exceed $32.400 plus $3,000. Chief Few: We have upgraded all the consoles in the 911 Center except the ones that the Fire Department uses. It needs to be upgraded because it was not automated very well. There is one more issue that's not in the proposal, the mD capability. IT Spokesperson: In order to make these consoles compliant for the mD which is the tone deaf capability, it's an additional $1,590.00 per unit Chief Few: The Sheriff and I have actually split the bill for the project, whatever the cost we'll do 50/50. " Mr. }{nhlke: I move Mr. Chairman that we approve the request including the two TDD. Mr. Shepard: Second. Motion carried unanimously. With no further business to discuss the meeting was adjoumed.
