ABSENT: Hon. Zetterberg, Vice-Chairman; Sconyers, Mayor.
Also Present: Sylvia Cooper of the Augusta Chronicle and
George Eskola of WJBF Television.
Communication from the Attorney requesting consideration
of the lease for tower space on WRDW's tower in North Augusta,
was read.
Chief Dep. Hatfield: We have certain antennas in place
on the WRDW tower. The antenna at the 60 foot position on the
tower is former Augusta Police Department Channel 1. The
antennas at the 200 and 220 foot positions are former Augusta
Police Channels 1 and 2. The antenna at the 350 foot position
belongs to Augusta Public Works. We have no further need for
the antenna at the 60 foot position and would recommend that
we delete those. contractual services. We would recommend that
..yo\,} consider maintaining the 220 foot position even though it
is not being used at this time because if you give any thought
':.down- the road .to our own 800 system, we could use this as a
tower location for this system. We are not using the 200 foot
position at this time. 'We may not want to give up any space
on this tower, 'however, because it would be very difficult to
get it back since they have a waiting list for the space.
'. We' would need the space'if we decide to go to our own antenna
system. down the road..
..',
Mr. Wall: It is believed that Channel 12 has an antenna
on top of this building. There are three antennas up there,
one- of 'whichwebelieve .belongs to WJBF, one to WRDW and the
other i.s unknown.. There is - also - a pole with two satellite dishes
up there and we-don't know who those belong to.
After further discussion, Mr. Kuhlke: I move that we direct
the County Attorney to identify the antennas on the roof of
....'th.is building, to enter into negotiations with WRDW-TV and also
to work out the arrangements to bring the contract to date.
Mr. Mays: Second.
Motion adopted unanimously.
