Brigham, Co-Chairman; Bridges and Williams, members; Jim Wall, Attorney; Randy Oliver, Administrator; North Williamson, Tax Commissioner's Office; Lena Bonner, Clerk of Commission. ABSENT: Hon. Shepard, Chairman. Also Present: Sylvia Cooper of The Augusta Chronicle, Stacey Eidson of The Metropolitan Spirit, George Eskola ofWJBF Television, Eileen Rivers of The Augusta Focus and Hons. J. Brigham and Beard, Commissioners. A request to abate 1999 taxes on property located at 1057 Katherine Street purchased by Augusta State University (Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia), was read. Mr. Bridges: I move for approval. Mr. Williams: Second. Motion adopted unanimously. I A request to consider abatement of penalty and interest for 1996 business asset tax bill for BakerHydro Filtrations, Inc., was read. Mr. Wall: Through their attorney to me they have furnished an amended return for 1996. They are asking the Commission to recompute based upon new values for the fixed aSl:lets. The return filed by the old company listed machinery and equipment at $846,125 whereas the allocation of the purchase price used by BakerHydro Filtrations when they purchased it attributed only $114,987. On the furniture and fixtures the figure that was on the original '96 return was $46,360 and they're asking for a value of $6,299 which is the cost allocation made at the time of closing in February of '96. On the lease hold improvements the original figure was $6,613 and they're asking for a valuation of $858 which would give a total under their valuation of$122,144. Mr. Williamson: The total amount due is $2239.57. Mr. Bridges: I make a motion that we seek what I think is a fair and equitable amount of$2,239.57 which includes penalty and interest. Mr. H. Brigham: I second it. Motion carries unanimously. Mr. Williams: I'll second it to get it on the floor. Motion adopted unanimously. Presentation by Karenina Dance Masters Intensive, Inc. regarding funding for an upcoming event during the second week of June, 2000. Ms. Karen Brown made a presentation regarding the activities of the program for the week. I Mr. Bridges: I move that we accept this as information. I Motion dies for lack of a second. Mr. Beard: I think maybe we could have a recommendation from the Finance Committee to Housing and Neighborhood Development if they have any funding available for that. Mr. Bridges: I'll make that in the form of a motion. Mr. Oliver: I don't think it would be eligible. Ms. Brown: There are 30 Recreation Department children who are attending and the Recreation Department paid $1,500 for them at $50 per child. The cost is $100 per child. Mr. Wall: If they have already paid $1,500 and you wanted to appropriate the additional $1,500, I think you could do that. Mr. Williams: I make a motion that it be forwarded to the full Commission with no recommendation and ask the Administrator to come up with possible funding sources. I Mr. H. Brigham: Second.
