Tax Assessor; Lon Morrey, Comptroller and Nancy Morawski, Deputy Clerk of Commission. Also Present: Sylvia Cooper of The Augusta Chronicle and Stacey Eidson of The Me[ropolitan Spirit. A request to abate balance of 1999 State, County and School taxes on the property at 2441 Riverlook Drive which the City bought from Charles T. Mills and Eva Elizabeth Mills on 8-27-99. At that time, the sum of $921.67 was paid as the sellers' prorata share of these taxes. was read. A request to abate balance of 1999 State, County and School taxes on the property consisting of 2.20 acres on Morgan Road, which the City bought from the Estates of Johnnie W. Raborn, Sr. and Maudell C. Raborn on 10-8-99. At that time, the sum of $924.94 was paid as the seller's prorata share of these taxes, was read. I A request to abate balance of 1999 State, County and School taxes on the property at No.1 Broad Street, which the City bought from Irma H. Hatfield on 9- 28-99. At that time, the sum of $396.91 was paid as the seller's prorata share of these taxes, was read. Mr. Wall: We recommend approval of all three. Mr.. 1. Brigham: I so move. Mr.. H. Brigham: Second. \1otion adopted unanimously. A request to approve Gene Cockerham of Augusta as the vendor of choice for the purpose of auctioning excess County vehicles and equipment (Bid # 99- 1l0A), was read. After a short discussion, Mr. 1. Brigham: I make a motion that we award it to Mr. Cockerham. \tr Beard: Second. I Motion adopted unanimously. A request from the Boy Scouts of America, Georgia-Carolina Council, Inc. for partial waiver of 1999 taxes in the amount of $1236048 (Map 70-2, Parcel 50) - $4625048 on property located at 1804 Gordon Highway and 2833 Milledgeville Road. \\'.1.::- r:;;.tu. Mr. J. Brigham: I so move. Mr. H. Brigham: Second. Motion adopted unanimously. A request for refund of 1997 taxes in the amount of $465.45 to NTFC Capital Corporation for overpayment of taxes on account 2060390, was read. NIr. J. Brigham: I so move. Mr. Beard: Second. Motion adopted unanimously. A request for refund of 1996 taxes in the amount of $294.32 to Richard R. Barbee for overpayment of taxes on Account 24703, was read. Mr. Beard: I so move. Mr. 1. Brigham: Second. Motion adopted unanimously. Communication from Mr. Cecil E. McCollum regarding his tax exemption status, was read. Mr. McCollum: I bought my home in 1969. My mortgage company paid the taxes on it until 1999 and I was unaware of the over-65 exemption. I'm 67 and had I been aware of the exemption, I certainly would have applied for it. I talked with the Tax Assessors Office and they told me that I could not be exempt. w1r. Sears: This would be for school taxes. I talked with Mr. Saul and understand that people who pay taxes through the mortage company receive a copy of their statement each year. :\Ir. Mr. McCollum: I haven't received such a statement. I Mr. Wall: You could go back and refund the taxes for him and he is within the three-year period. ;>11. _. Mr. Williamson: He would be entitled for 1998 and 1999 on the age basis. Mr. Wall: The process was followed in which the notice was sent to the property owner. We can't say that he actually received it. In the past you have tried to limit these cases to situations in which it was our error and in this case, this was not our error. We have done everything properly on our end. You could have other people who may come in and say they didn't receive their statements, and in the paslt you have generally not allowed refunds to people in cases when we have followed our procedures.
