HomeMy WebLinkAboutCalled Commission Meeting September 27, 2010 CALLED MEETING COMMISSION CHAMBER September 27, 2010 Augusta Richmond County Commission convened at 12:16 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2010, the Honorable Deke Copenhaver, Mayor, presiding. PRESENT: Hons. Smith, Mason, Grantham, Hatney, Aitken, Johnson, Jackson and Bowles, members of Augusta Richmond County Commission. ABSENT: Hons. Lockett and Brigham, members of Augusta Richmond County Commission. Mayor Copenhaver called the meeting to order. Legal Meeting A.Pending and potential litigation B.Real estate C.Personnel Mr. Johnson: I so move. Mr. Smith: Second. Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and a second. Commissioners will now vote by the usual sign of voting. Motion carries 8-0. Mr. Mayor: We are in legal. [LEGAL MEETING] Motion to authorize execution by the Mayor of the affidavit of compliance with Georgia’s Open Meetings Law. Mr. Jackson: So moved. Mr. Bowles: Second. Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and a second. Commissioners will now vote by the usual sign of voting. Mr. Grantham and Mr. Johnson out. Motion carries 6-0. Mr. Mayor: Mr. MacKenzie. Mr. MacKenzie: I would entertain a motion to authorize a Resolution authorizing the settlement of a potential litigation claim for inverse condemnation of property to resolve the claim of Frank Christian related to the property known as 3421 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, Georgia, for the payment of $175,000. Mr. Mayor: Can I get a motion to that effect? Mr. Grantham: So move. Mr. Mayor: Do we have a second? Mr. Jackson: Second. Mr. Mayor: We have a motion – The Clerk: The motion would be to add and approve, okay? Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and a second. Commissioners will now vote by the usual sign of voting. Mr. Johnson out. Motion carries 7-0. Mr. Mayor: Mr. MacKenzie. Mr. MacKenzie: One more item. A motion to authorize a grade adjustment for all staff attorney positions from Grade 56 to Grade 60 and to authorize a salary of $89,826.10 for staff attorney applicant Jody Smitherman. Mr. Mayor: Can I get a motion to that effect? Mr. Mason: Mr. Mayor. Let me – Mr. Mayor: Mr. Mayor Pro Tem. Mr. Mason: Have just a bit of discussion on that just to make sure that that motion is clear that that grade increase does not include a price increase to that grade. It’s just bringing that grade number up to the dollar value that that job currently has, is that not correct? Mr. MacKenzie: That’s correct. That would be to authorize the hiring of a new person at the same salary as the current staff attorney and to increase the grade for both of those positions from 56 to 60 with no salary change. Mr. Mason: Okay. Mr. Mayor: Thank you for that clarification. Do we have a motion? Mr. Aitken: So moved. Mr. Mayor: We have a motion. Do we have a second? Mr. Hatney: Second. Mr. Mayor: We have a motion and a second. If there’s no further discussion, commissioners will now vote by the usual sign of voting. Mr. Johnson out. Motion carries 7-0.
