HomeMy WebLinkAboutCalled Commission Meeting January 29, 2007 CALLED MEETING COMMITTEE ROOM January 29, 2007 Augusta Richmond County Commission convened at 11:45 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2007, the Honorable Deke Copenhaver, Mayor, presiding. PRESENT: Hons. Holland, Smith, Harper, Hatney, Williams, Beard, Cheek, Bowles and Brigham, members of Augusta Richmond County Commission. ABSENT: Hon. Grantham, member of Augusta Richmond County Commission. Also Present: Steve Shepard, Jim Plunkett and Dan Hamilton, Attorney’s Office; Fred Russell, Administrator; Lena Bonner, Clerk of Commission. Mayor Copenhaver called the meeting to order. The Invocation was given by Rev. Marion Williams. 2. Legal Meeting ? Pending and Potential Litigation ? Real Estate Mr. Williams: I so move. Mr. Harper: Second. Mr. Cheek out. Motion carries 8-0. [LEGAL MEETING] At the close of the legal meeting the meeting was reopened to the public. 3.Motion to approve execution by the Mayor of the affidavit of compliance with Georgia’s Open Meeting Act. Mr. Cheek: So move. Ms. Beard: Second. Motion carries 9-0. 5.Approve extension until February 16, 2007 of the due diligence period provided for in the contract between Augusta, Georgia, the Downtown Development Authority and the Foxfield Company relative o the sale and t acquisition of the “Watermark” property, formerly referred to as the “pension property”. 1 Mr. Cheek: So move. Mr. Holland: Second. Motion carries 9-0. 6.Consider compromise of amount due Augusta by John O. Ghann, said debt being secured by mortgage in favor of Augusta and secured by property located at 3107 Whaley Road. Mr. Cheek: So move. Mr. Brigham: Second. Motion carries 9-0. Mr. Shepard: I would ask for a motion to add and approve in settlement of claims an additional year and a half of pension credits to Mr. Ronnie Joyner who is a retiree under the 1949 Act and that he be allowed to draw that benefit commencing on when he was 55 years of age and with the award of the additional one and a half year’s service he would have the required 20 years service. Ms. Beard: So move. Mr. Cheek: Second. Mr. Shepard: And the benefit should have begun in November so we need to make that notation too. Motion carries 9-0. Mr. Shepard: And we have one more and that is a motion to add and approve the purchase in conjunction with the Main Library Project a property th located at 412 9 Street and 848 Greene Street for a combined value of $300,000.
