HomeMy WebLinkAboutCalled Commission Meeting April 9, 2007 CALLED MEETING COMMISSION CHAMBER April 9, 2007 Augusta Richmond County Commission convened at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 9, 2007, the Honorable Deke Copenhaver, Mayor, presiding. PRESENT: Hons. Holland, Smith, Grantham, Harper, Cheek, Bowles, and Brigham, members of Augusta Richmond County Commission. ABSENT: Hons. Beard, Williams and Hatney, members of Augusta Richmond County Commission. Mr. Russell: This is a follow up to a committee meeting that occurred in Finance several weeks ago in which we suggested that we have a special session to talk about retirement and health care issues for employees. We’ve been working on this for the past five years and there are no easy answers for these types of challenges. We are talking about the costs and what happens if we don’t do something. The policy decision becomes on how we deal with that. Robby has done a year’s worth of work on this and I would suggest the public comment for the time being and let the presenters go through their presentation. Mr. Burns: Today we have representatives from GMEBS and they will discuss the actual pension plan. We also have a representative from Buck Consultants and he will discuss the costs of offering health insurances to employees when they retire. Mr. Hamilton Henson from Buck Consultants made a presentation regarding the costs to provide post retirement medical coverage for employees currently covered by the 1998 pension plan and those not currently covered by any pension plan. Mr. Leon Joyner with the Segal Company made a presentation regarding the various aspects of the combination of the current pension plans. [MEETING ADJOURNED] Lena J. Bonner Clerk of Commission nwm
