CALLED MEETING COMMISSION CHAMBERS
December 30, 1996
Augusta-Richmond County Commission convened at 3:00 p.m., Monday,
December 30, 1996, the Honorable Larry E. Sconyers, Mayor, presiding.
PRESENT: Hons. Beard, Bridges, H. Brigham, J. Brigham, Handy, Kuhlke,
Mays, Powell, Todd and Zetterberg, members of Augusta-Richmond County
Commission.
Also present were Lena Bonner, Clerk of Commission; Randy Oliver,
Administrator; James B. Wall, Augusta-Richmond County Attorney; and Cathy
Pirtle, Certified Court Reporter.
MAYOR SCONYERS: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to
the Special Called Meeting of Augusta-Richmond County Commission. We're going
to have the Invocation this afternoon by the Reverend M.E. Stokes, Pastor of
the Central African Baptist Church, and if you'll remain standing we'll have
the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Reverend Stokes, please?
THE INVOCATION WAS GIVEN BY THE REVEREND STOKES.
THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE WAS RECITED.
MAYOR SCONYERS: Thank you, Reverend Stokes. Ms. Bonner, do you want to
read the agenda, please?
CLERK: Yes, sir. Item 1 is the appointment discussion of the Augusta-
Richmond County Fire Chief; 2, other business; 3, legal meeting.
MR. TODD: Mr. Mayor, I move that we go in executive session to discuss
personnel matters and legal.
MAYOR SCONYERS: I have a motion by Mr. Todd. Do I hear a second to Mr.
Todd's motion?
MR. BRIDGES: Second.
MAYOR SCONYERS: Seconded by Mr. Bridges. Discussion, gentlemen? All
in favor of Mr. Todd's motion, let it be known by raising your hand, please.
MOTION CARRIES 8-0. [MR. POWELL & MR. MAYS OUT]
MAYOR SCONYERS: So we'll retire to the conference room at this time.
Thank you.
[EXECUTIVE SESSION, 3:10 - 4:25 P.M.]
MAYOR SCONYERS: The meeting will come back to order, please.
MR. TODD: Mr. Mayor?
MAYOR SCONYERS: Mr. Todd?
MR. TODD: I'd like to make a motion, Mr. Mayor, that we interview the
three candidates as soon as the Administrator can set it up -- a personal
interview here in Augusta. That's in the form of a motion.
MR. MAYS: Second.
MAYOR SCONYERS: Motion by Mr. Todd, seconded by Mr. Mays. Discussion,
gentlemen? All in favor of Mr. Todd's motion, let it be known by raising your
hand, please.
MOTION CARRIES 9-1. [MR. POWELL VOTES NO]
MAYOR SCONYERS: Any other business?
MR. TODD: Mr. Mayor, I move we adjourn.
MAYOR SCONYERS: Thank you, Mr. Todd. The meeting is adjourned.
