HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-25-1996 Called Meeting CALLED MEETING COMMISSION-COUNCIL CHAMBERS October 25, 1996 Augusta-Richmond County Commission convened at 3:22 p.m., Friday, October 25, 1996, the Honorable Larry E. Sconyers, Mayor, presiding. PRESENT: Hons. Beard, H. Brigham, J. Brigham, Handy, Kuhlke, Mays, Todd and Zetterberg, members of Augusta-Richmond County Commission. ABSENT: Hons. Bridges and Powell, members of Augusta- Richmond County Commission. Also present were Lena Bonner, Clerk of Commission-Council; James B. Wall, Augusta-Richmond County Attorney; and Cathy Pirtle, Certified Court Reporter. MAYOR SCONYERS: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Special Called Meeting of the Augusta-Richmond County Commission. We're going to have the Invocation by the Reverend Robert Anderson, Pastor of the Pine Grove Baptist Church, and if you'll remain standing we'll have the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. THE INVOCATION WAS GIVEN BY THE REVEREND ANDERSON. THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE WAS RECITED. MAYOR SCONYERS: Thank you, Reverend Anderson. Ms. Bonner, do you want to go over our limited agenda, please. CLERK: Yes, sir. Item 1 is discussion of the Administrator's position and Item 2, legal matters. MAYOR SCONYERS: Thank you, ma'am. We're going to have to go into executive session for the -- for a personnel and legal matter. MR. J. BRIGHAM: Where is our attorney at? MAYOR SCONYERS: I just realized he was gone. CLERK: Lori is here. MAYOR SCONYERS: We need a motion to go into -- MR. KUHLKE: I'll move. MR. HANDY: Second. MAYOR SCONYERS: I have a motion by Mr. Kuhlke, seconded by Mr. Handy. Further discussion? All in favor of Mr. Kuhlke's motion, let it be known by raising your hand, please. MOTION CARRIES 7-1. MAYOR SCONYERS: Did I miss somebody? MR. TODD: I voted no, Mr. Mayor. I don't see any reason to going back there. Everything we say is out here before we get out here. MAYOR SCONYERS: Well, we're still going to do it in a private session. And I'm sorry, the camera man's elbow -- I missed your arm, I'm sorry. We can adjourn to the back room now. COMMISSIONERS RETIRE INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION AT 3:25 P.M. At the close of the executive session, the meeting was reopened to the public. Mr. Mays: I move that Mr. Charles R. Oliver be nominated for the position of Administrator of Augusta-Richmond County. Mr. Kuhlke: Second the motion. Motion adopted with Mr. Bridges absent. Mr. Todd: I move that the nominations be closed. Mr. H. Brigham: Second the motion. Motion adopted with Mr. Handy and Mr. Powell voting "No" and Mr. Bridges absent. Mr. Todd: I move the meeting be adjourned. Lena J. Bonner Clerk of Commission CERTIFICATION: I, Lena J.
