Director ofP.W. - Engineering Division; Teresa Smith, Pre-Construction Engineer; Charles Webster, Sheriff; Max Hicks, Utilities Dept. Director; Mary Williams, Utilities Dept.; Lena Bonner, Clerk of Commission and Nancy Morawski, Deputy Clerk of Commission. ABSENT: Hon. Powell, Vice-Chairman. Also Present: Sylvia Cooper of The Augusta Chronicle, Stacey Eidson of The Metropolitan Spirit, George Eskola ofWJBF Television, other members of the news media and Hons. 1. Brigham, Bridges and Colclough, Commissioners. The Clerk:' We have a request to delete Item #4 from the agenda. Mr. Shepard: I so move. Mr. Beard: Second. I Motion adopted unanimously. A request to approve the petition for retirement on Larry Smalley, was read. A request to approve the petition for retirement on Clarence H. Tuten, was read. Mr. Shepard: I so move on Items I and 2. Mr. BearJ: Second. Motion adopted unanimously. A request to approve an Ordinance providing for the demolition of certain unsafe and uninhabitable properties in the Laney-Walker Neighborhood: 819 Ninth Street (rear building), 1319 Holley Street (District 1, Super District 9); 1309 Florence Street (District 2, Super District 9); South Augusta Neighborhood: 308 Sims Avenue, 330 Sims Avenue (District 2, Super District 9); 3504 Buckner Avenue (District 4, Super District 9); West End Neighborhood: 1456 Reynolds Street (District 1, Super District 9) and waive 2nd reading, was read. I Mr. Beard: I so move. Mr. Shepard: Second. Motion adopted unanimously. A request to approve a pro-rated salary increase for employees who were hired after 9-30-98 and above the minimum of the salary range, was read. Mr. Oliver: The cost for this would be about $14,000 and is within the budgeted salary figures we had previously provided. After a short discussion, Mr. Shepard: I move approval of the proposal. Mr. Beard: Second. Motion adopted unanimously. A request to approve upgrading (2) Sergeant positions to Lieutenant positions and eliminate (1) Captain's position and reduce number of Sergeants positions from 12 to 10, was read. Mr. Shepard: I move we approve the change as requested by Sheriff Webster. Mr. Beard: Second. Motion adopted unanimously. A request to authorize and approve the position and advertisement to hire a Project Manager for One Percent Sales Tax Projects for the Public Works and Engineering Department, was read. Mr. Oliver: We are requesting this position for one large project and there may be others projects coming as well. The salary for this person will be funded under sales tax. They will be needed for the large i'roject, but they will not continue if the sales tax is not approved for continuation. After further discussion, Mr. Shepard: I move approval. Mr. Beard: I second.
