Brigham, Chairman; Beard and Shepard, members; Randy Oliver, Administrator; Jim Wall, Attorney; John Etheridge, Human Resources Director; Brenda Palaez, EEO Officer; Nancy Morawski, Deputy Clerk of Commission and Belinda Brown of the Clerk's Office. ABSENT: Hon. J. B. Powell, Vice-Chairman. Also Present: Sylvia Cooper of The Augusta Chronicle, George Eskola of WJBF Television, Stacey Eidson of The Metropolitan Spirit and Hons. Todd, J. Brigham and Bridges, Commissioners. The Committee first considered approval of a policy against workplace violence. Mr. Etheridge: care of a situation recommend approval. This gives our departments a means to take if any type of situation arises and I Mr. Oliver: It outlines who should be called in this building if a situation arises where security is needed. Mr. Shepard: I move approval. Mr. Chairman: I second it. Motion adopted unanimously. An Ordinance providing for the demolition of certain unsafe and uninhabitable properties in the Laney-Walker Neighborhood: 1246 Pine Street, 1010 Ninth Street, 932 Miller Street, 1107 Dugas Street and 912 Barnes street, was read. Mr. Wall: This is the third step in the process to accomplish these demolitions. After a short discussion, Mr. Shepard: I move approval. Mr. Beard: Second. Mr. Chairman: There are some structures out in the Laney Walker area which are in very bad shape and really safety hazards, so I would appreciate it if you would look at that and see if the demolitions could proceed on some of those in that area. Mr. Wall: I will check on it or ask Harry to check it. After further discussion, the motion was adopted unanimously. Mr. Todd: with our high unemployment in this community and the number of socioeconomically disadvantaged citizens we have, I I" think the former city applied to be designated as an enterprise zone. I'd like to recommend to the Committee that we look at authorizing our staff to put together the package that was previously done by the city and work from that. Mr. Oliver: I can ask Mr. DeCamp to come in two weeks to discuss that, if he's the appropriate person. Mr. Chairman: They also would have that from CD. The Committee had a short discussion regarding the homeless situation in the community and the Chairman announced that community Development Week would take place in April and that activities will be held in that regard.
